Musical Theater Camp

For a week each March, Poway OnStage and Missoula Children’s Theatre take up residency at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts to conduct a week-long Musical Theater Camp.

March 4-9, 2024

Auditions: Monday, March 4, 2024 4:00pm

Rehearsals: Mon-Fri, March 4-8, 2024 4:00-8:20pm

Performances: Saturday, March 9, 2024 3:00/7:00pm

Cost: Grant-Funded (No Cost for Students to Participate)

Performance Tickets: $20/adults $10/youth

2024 Registration Schedule

Pre-registration opens: Monday, January 8, 2024.

Pre-registration deadline: Friday, February 23, 2024 at 12pm.

Students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade will be selected to audition by a lottery process.

Students in grades 3-12 will have an open audition.

K-2nd Lottery Results will be announced on Monday, February 26, 2024.

SHOW SYNOPSIS: Robin Hood

For more than 20 years, Poway OnStage has partnered with the world-renowned Missoula Children’s Theatre to present its annual Musical Youth Theater Camp. Children K-12th grade will audition, rehearse and stage a full-scale musical performance in just six days! This year, local young thespians will perform an all-new version of the classic tale Robin Hood. Auditions and participation are free and open to the public as they are supported by Poway OnStage’s donor supported Arts in Education Initiative.

The Missoula Children’s Theatre presents Robin Hood, an original adaptation of the classic children’s story. The time is simply long ago and the place is the magical, mythical Sherwood Forest. Our hero, Robin Hood, and his Merry Band of colorful characters seek the help of the Foresters, manage to waylay the Aristocrats, and set out to rescue Maid Marion and Marion’s Maid. Prince John tries to stay calm as his Sheriff, guards, and horsemen botch Robin’s arrest thanks to the aromatic Skunks. Wacky humor and an original score add to this fresh new look at a legendary outlaw in a legendary time.

Monday: Auditions

On Monday at 4:00pm, MCT holds a two-hour audition on stage at the PCPA. Over 100 children (K-12th grade) from across the North Inland San Diego County participate in this fun, low-stress group audition. Of those who audition, approximately 60 are chosen to attend the all-expenses-paid production camp after school that week.

Monday – Friday: Rehearsals

Directly following the auditions, selected students begin rehearsing, learning lines, songs and dances to prepare for two shows of a contemporary and comedic production of classic works – in just 5 days! Imagine a theater filled with laughter, learning and building a life-long love for the performing arts.
