Introduction to Instruments is an engaging and interactive educational assembly that introduces 4th graders to the different families of musical instruments and is designed to inspire students to choose an instrument and join the 5th grade band. During Introduction to Instruments, local high school band and orchestra students serve as mentors to students from 25 elementary schools in the Poway Unified School District. This program serves 2,600 4th graders with participation by over 200 high school band students.

Poway OnStage Arts in Education
Arts in Education Initiative
This six-part program is designed to broaden children’s knowledge of the performing arts, thereby enhancing their academic, social, and intellectual growth.
By working closely with the Poway Unified School District, Poway OnStage provides valuable learning opportunities, including in-school workshops, classes with visiting artists, a one-week, all-expenses-paid theater camp, and more. These activities provide children with a platform to develop artistic and creative abilities, critical thinking, teamwork, and social skills while introducing them to the world of theater, dance, and music.

Every year, Poway OnStage brings the nationally recognized Missoula Children’s Theatre to our community. For one week each March, Poway OnStage hosts over 60 children in a week-long “audition to production” Musical Theater Experience on stage at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts.
Also in March of every year, Poway OnStage schedules workshops with Missoula Children’s Theatre Educator/Directors that serve more than 600 local 2nd grade students with an in-school Musical Theater Experience. These dynamic workshops are aligned with California State Visual and Performing Arts Standards and include acting skills, improvisation, teamwork and more.
The newest of our Initiative Programs, Poway OnStage now provides an educational field trip program in conjunction with our Professional Performance Series. These educational programs provide area students with access to high quality performing arts experiences as well as study guides for teachers that provide additional arts integrated learning in-class.
The goal of our Master Class series is to provide up-close and personal experiences with nationally and internationally known performing artists. We accomplish this by hosting select artists from our Professional Performance Series who offer demonstrations of their work, plus time for questions and answers, to children and adults.
At Poway OnStage, we strongly believe in the importance of bringing the arts to our region’s young people. Our goal is to help them develop an appreciation for the arts that lasts a lifetime; provide affordable entertainment that the entire family can enjoy; and build future audiences. Youth Tickets are offered to children ages 5-18 at a significantly discounted cost for each show in our Professional Performance Series.
All of our Arts in Education programming is offered at little or no cost to participants because of the generous support of our community.
