SHOW SYNOPSIS: RUMPELSTILTSKIN
For more than 20 years, Poway OnStage has partnered with the world-renowned Missoula Children’s Theatre to present its annual Musical Youth Theater Camp. Children K-12th grade will audition, rehearse and stage a full-scale musical performance in just six days! This year, local young thespians will perform an all-new version of the classic tale Rumpelstiltskin. Auditions and participation are free and open to the public as they are supported by Poway OnStage’s donor supported Arts in Education Initiative.
The Missoula Children’s Theatre presents RUMPELSTILTSKIN, an original adaptation of the classic children’s story. A strange little gnome appears from here, there and everywhere. He will spin your straw into gold…for a price. If his price is too steep, you must guess his name…RUMPELSTILTSKIN! Join in the fun of Festival Time and help Clara guess the mischievous little gnome’s name. You will also encounter a Jester, Villagers, Wizards, a Queen, a King, Knights and a band of busy little Bees. This heart-warming tale of mischief and friendship answers more questions than just “What is that little man’s name?”

Monday: Auditions
On Monday at 4:00pm, MCT holds a two-hour audition on stage at the PCPA. Over 100 children (K-12th grade) from across the North Inland San Diego County participate in this fun, low-stress group audition. Of those who audition, approximately 60 are chosen to attend the all-expenses-paid production camp after school that week.
Monday – Friday: Rehearsals
Directly following the auditions, selected students begin rehearsing, learning lines, songs and dances to prepare for two shows of a contemporary and comedic production of classic works – in just 5 days! Imagine a theater filled with laughter, learning and building a life-long love for the performing arts.
Saturday: Performances
By Saturday, the students are fully prepared to present an all-new production of a classic work – with sets, costumes and HUGE smiles!
