Poway OnStage Concert
With 19 albums that ranked in Billboard’s Top 100, multiple hits that made it to the top ten spots and five number one’s, The Kingston Trio is one of the most influential pop-folk groups. The Kingston Trio began as a San Francisco Bay Area nightclub act and rose to international popularity and remains on several all-time lists on many Billboard charts to to this day.
In 1961, the Trio was declared “the most envied, the most imitated, and the most successful singing group, folk or otherwise, in all show business” as well as “the undisputed kings of the folksinging rage by every yardstick”.
While the three current members were not part of the original Kingston Trio, Mike Marvin, Tim Gorelangton and Don Marovich have deeply rooted links and experience to the original group:
Mike is the adopted son of founding member Nick Reynolds, who also mentored him in music; Tim, a close friend since boyhood, is one of the few musicians outside the Trio who has recorded with Nick Reynolds; and Don Marovich, also toured with the original Trio. They’ll perform such timeless classics as “Where Have All The Flowers Gone?” and the bands most notable single, “Tom Dooley” which sold over three million copies and earned the trio their first Grammy Award in 1959.
